Freedom for All
It’s the Fourth of July. Independence Day. A day we celebrate freedom here in the United States.
But while I think of all the things I love about being free, while I let my heart soar with the fireworks and the music of my homeland, I can’t help but remember them.
I don’t remember exactly the day that I realized that slavery wasn’t really dead. But I do know that on that day, something in my heart broke.
I caught a glimpse of how much horror exists because of selfish human beings. Nothing has changed too much in 6,000 years.
Tears spilled out. I just wanted it to stop. I wished that I didn’t have to know that slavery is still alive. I cannot forget. I cannot pretend that I don’t know. I can’t just walk away.
But the truth is that 27 million people are still trapped. Every 60 seconds, yet another innocent child is sold into sex slavery. Once you know, you cannot forget things like that.
For years I felt tormented because I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know how to help. I didn’t know if it made a difference anyway.
But now I know that I can help and it does make a difference. So can you.
Sometimes I forget that I don’t have to be rich, or powerful or extra smart to be an advocate for freedom. Don’t you? Never underestimate the power of a little bit by a lot of people, and the powerful gift of prayer.
So this month, while you celebrate life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, think of them. The millions who are waiting for their chance to taste what freedom is.
When you look at the star-spangled banner, and feel proud to be free, think of them.
Think of them, and let freedom for all become your prayer and action this year.

Thank you for bringing awareness to this important (and yet often not well broadcasted) issue, here right in our own homeland and beyond. Praying for freedom (and healing) for these precious souls.
