Jodi Fischer mysteries

The Jodi SeriesMystery books have always held a special place in my heart. I spent many enjoyable hours with the Hardy Boys, Boxcar Children, and Happy Hollisters during the first years of my reading life. But my book list has lacked titles from the mystery genre in my teen years, stemming from a desire to read more classic literature. Also, detectives like Frank and Joe Hardy are hard to replace.

However, I recently revisited the detective world through the first two books of the Jodi Series, written by Virginia Ann Work. The Mystery of the Missing Message and The Secret in the Silver Box describe the summer adventures of Jodi Fischer and Lexi Marshal, two teenage Christian girls. The first book describes the discovery of a wallet and a baby sock in the woods, leading them on a confusing and dangerous adventure. The second book tells the story of an old man’s silver box, and the mysterious intrigue it holds for those seeking its contents.

Dealing with friendship, obedience, and creativity, the books target the audience of girls ages 12-14. The storyline is entertaining and wholesome, with exciting action and often unpredictable twists. The series provides fun reading material for young girls, combining mystery with spiritual truths. Although a modern-day mystery may not have the same flavor as a 1950s’ thriller, who wouldn’t enjoy reading about a Christian Nancy Drew and Bess Marvin?

Virginia Work is giving the first two books in the Jodi Series to one of our readers!  To enter the giveaway, comment and tell us about your favorite mystery book or series.  (Giveaway ends March 26.  Congratulations to commenter #4, Joelle, for winning the Jodi books!)

  1. I haven’t read many mysteries, but some years ago I read quite a few of the Boxcar Children series (which would be my favorite), and I’ve read 1 of the Nancy Drews. I really love mysteries, and I would love to read some more!! πŸ™‚

  2. The Boxcar Children series has always been my favorite mystery books! I have collected quite a collection of them from thrift stores over the years… I’ve been reading them for a decade probably, but not as much in years of late. They’re still my favorite. πŸ™‚
Thanks for this giveaway! I’d love to try a new series.

  3. I have always enjoyed the Felicia Cartwright books by Bernard Palmer full of mystery and adventure! I have read one of the Jodi Fischer mysteries and loved it! I had no idea they were still being printed.

  4. I loved Sweet valley high and was planning on passing them down to my children but Ive recently realized the lack of morals and values.

  5. When I was younger(8, 9, 10,) I hated reading. Then, I read a Boxcar Children book. And another. And another. Eventually I fell in love with reading. As I got older I got into Trixie Belden books & the Hardy Boys and read everyone I could get my hands on. πŸ™‚

  6. What a lovely collection of books πŸ™‚
I shall have a look in my local library to see if they have them on loan. I love a good mystery but find ‘wholesome’ onse such as these few and far between.

  7. I’ve always really loved the Nancy Drew series, I tried to read the whole series… but it is huge!!! I got about halfway, then got kinda sick of them πŸ˜€

  8. We grew up reading the Hardy Boys series…and a little Nancy Drew. Haven’t read many mysteries since, but we sure loved those when we were kids!

  9. I love mysteries now, and I always have. Actually, for a while, I wasn’t a big reader, but the Mandie series got me going when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. I haven’t really stopped since. πŸ™‚

The Father Brown series by G. K. Chesterton and the Sherlock Holmes stories are my favorites lately (not quite the gushy, in-your-face kind of Christian mysteries, but ones where the world view of the author can’t hardly help but come through at appropriate and sometimes surprising moments.).

  10. ooh – these sound perfect for my book devouring daughter! My favourite growing up was the Trixie Belden series… would love to get my hands on them and re-read them all!
